Rhinoplasty is the most common cosmetic procedure performed on the Chinese population to change the height and shape of the nose by implanting appropriate materials to harmonize it with the rest of the face. Because the facial features of the yellow race are such that the bridge of the nose is not too prominent, some people will develop a saddle nose deformity for congenital or acquired reasons – it can be a simple sunken nasal bridge, and may also be accompanied by an upturned nasal tip or forward facing nostrils. The materials used in rhinoplasty are roughly divided into two types: one is autologous tissue, such as autologous bone and autologous cartilage; the other is artificial plastic substances, most of the materials used in rhinoplasty are silicone rubber and expanded polytetrafluoroethylene, and most of the materials used in rhinoplasty are autologous cartilage or expanded polytetrafluoroethylene. Medical silicone is one of the most used and effective materials for rhinoplasty because of its good elasticity, easy shaping, good chemical inertia, non-toxicity, non-cancerous, non-teratogenic, and good tissue compatibility. PTFE is resistant to high and low temperature, chemical stability, corrosion resistance, tissue compatibility are better, non-toxic, non-carcinogenic, non-teratogenic, it is softer than silicone rubber, more natural after surgery, the tissue can grow into the material, better long-term fixation. The disadvantages are that it needs to be shaped intraoperatively, it is not hard enough, it is less effective in supporting the nasal minors and nasal tip, it needs to prevent the shape from changing before healing after surgery, and it is more expensive. Before treating patients with saddle nose, two points should be clarified firstly, one is the severity of saddle nose; the other is what kind of material is used to fill it. For simple flat or sunken nasal bridge, most of them are due to congenital flat nasal bone development, the physiological function of the nose is normal in these patients, and the surgery only needs to elevate the nasal bridge to make it establish a good shape and meet the aesthetic requirements. Some patients need to adjust the shape of the nasal tip and nose at the same time to achieve the overall harmony of the nasal shape. For people who have nose functional problems in addition to nasal bridge collapse, they cannot be solved by simple rhinoplasty, but must first repair the soft tissue defect of the nose, lengthen the length and then implant a nasal scaffold in order to correct the deformity and restore the shape. They are suitable to choose autologous cartilage or autologous bone graft. Theoretically, autologous bone or autologous cartilage is preferred, but it is necessary to take bone from elsewhere and increase trauma. At present, medical silicone rubber is a more ideal filling material as it is less painful for patients and has fewer postoperative complications.
