What’s with the coughing chest pain?

There are many reasons for coughing chest pain, such as pneumothorax, pleurisy, costochondritis and so on.

1. Pneumothorax: It is a common cause of chest pain. This includes spontaneous pneumothorax, which is common in tall, thin people and causes breathing-related chest pain that worsens when coughing.

2. Pleurisy: Usually when viral, fungal, bacterial, or tuberculosis infections stimulate inflammation of the pleura, adhesions occur between the two layers of the pleura, and pain occurs when coughing. The pain will increase when you take a deep breath or cough, and the chest pain can be relieved when the inflammation subsides or the fluid in the chest cavity increases.

3. Costochondritis: the etiology is not clear, it may be related to trauma, chronic strain and so on leading to the inflammatory reaction of the soft tissues of the chest wall, which can cause chest pain when coughing. The pain is aggravated by upper limb activities, coughing, lying on the side, turning or exertion, and sometimes radiates to the shoulder or back.

Cough chest pain has other causes, it is recommended to consult a doctor in time, follow the doctor’s instructions for further examination, with the help of the doctor to clarify the cause, and targeted treatment or therapy.
