How to relieve the pain of prostate cancer bone metastasis

Bone metastasis from prostate cancer is an advanced symptom of prostate cancer, a few patients are detected by bone scan during regular follow-up and have no obvious clinical symptoms; while most patients with bone metastasis from prostate cancer can have obvious bone pain symptoms, the mechanism of bone pain and discomfort caused by bone metastasis from prostate cancer is still unclear and may be related to metabolic changes such as osteolytic destruction. Patients with obvious bone pain can apply diphosphonate drugs to improve bone metabolism, which has certain effect. If bone pain cannot be relieved, pain medications (celecoxib, flurbiprofen ester, prednisolone, or even morphine) can be applied. It should be noted that opioids are addictive, and their application needs to start with weak opioids, starting with small amounts and progressing gradually.

If the bone metastases are limited and the patient is in good general health and can tolerate surgery, localized osteotomy can be tried. If multiple multiple bone metastases are present, then bone resection should be done with caution. In addition to the above treatments for bone pain, prostate cancer itself should be diagnosed and treated. Prostate cancer that has progressed should be replaced or supplemented with anti-androgen drugs in a timely manner to help delay the progression of prostate cancer and the relief of bone pain. In addition, radiation therapy may help with bone pain and needs to be treated in a regular hospital, under the guidance of an experienced physician.
