How to read the report card of the results of the screening test for endemic anemia

There are various types of report cards for the results of geographic anemia screening, such as blood test report cards, hemoglobin electrophoresis and peptide chain tests. The common reports are as follows: 1. Routine blood tests: Mean corpuscular volume (MCV) and mean corpuscular hemoglobin content (MCH) are the key, which are reduced in all types of anemia, except for carriers of the resting type of geographic anemia gene who may have normal MCV or MCH. Intermediate, mild, and severe forms of anemia also show decreased hemoglobin. 2. Hemoglobin electrophoresis: This test is mainly used to detect abnormal hemoglobin. If the concentration of hemoglobin A2 is abnormally high, basically, it can be judged as beta-thalassemia minor; on the contrary, if the concentration is lowered, it is usually iron deficiency anemia. 3. Peptide chain test: Normally, the test should be negative, if it is positive, then it is considered as β-thalassemia minor. There are various kinds of report cards for thalassemia screening results, so it is recommended that patients consult with the hospital for relevant information, and the interpretation of indicators should be carried out under the guidance of physicians.
