If you have stomach pains in late pregnancy, you should first go to the hospital to check the fetal heart monitoring and see how the contractions are going. If the pain is caused by uterine contractions and there are no other abnormalities, and the ultrasound indicates normal amniotic fluid volume and good placenta and fetus, you can ask your obstetrician to do a vaginal examination to see if there is shortening of the cervical canal and opening of the uterus. If the contractions are confirmed and the cervical canal is shortened and the opening of the uterus is widened, it is a sign of preterm labor and you should be hospitalized to wait for labor. If fetal distress, hypoxia, poor fetal heartbeat or other conditions are found, a cesarean section should be considered to terminate the pregnancy.
