Hot or cold compresses for conjunctivitis

Conjunctivitis can be categorized into infectious and non-infectious conjunctivitis according to its etiology. Hot compresses have the effect of activating blood circulation and removing blood stasis, eliminating swelling and dispersing knots, while cold compresses have the effect of reducing swelling and alleviating pain, therefore, conjunctivitis in the acute stage due to the tendency to proliferate should be dealt with by applying cold compresses, cold compresses can stop the proliferation of inflammation and prevent the development of the disease. When the condition is stabilized, it can be changed to hot compresses to promote the absorption of inflammation. In addition, allergic conjunctivitis is recommended cold compresses rather than hot compresses, because hot compresses will further aggravate the symptoms of allergy, so conjunctivitis should be based on different situations, the flexibility to choose hot or cold compresses treatment.
