Treatment and Prognosis of Different Types of Tourette’s Disorder

The prognosis of different types of tic disorders is different, and so are the principles of treatment. The prognosis for this disorder is generally good, and most of them can improve on their own. However, the current study cannot suggest what kind of transient tic disorder will be slowed down in the future, and what kind of transient tic disorder will persist or gradually worsen. In general, no specific treatment is needed for those with mild tic symptoms and minimal disturbance damage. Emphasis should be placed on finding possible related somatic or psychosocial factors and giving proper guidance. For children, it is important to avoid excessive stress, fatigue and other mental burdens, and to help children understand and accept the symptoms to reduce shyness and anxiety. Those with frequent twitching symptoms or increasingly complex and variable twitching forms can be treated with medication. 2, chronic motor or vocal tic disorder This disorder generally does not require special treatment, especially for the symptoms have been fixed for a long time, has formed a habit such as adults clearing their throat or blinking twitching, and does not affect daily life, learning or work, generally do not need to be treated with drugs. 3, multiple tic disorder, Tourette’s syndrome or tic or obscene syndrome The course of the disease is slowly progressive, symptoms fluctuate, new symptoms can replace the old symptoms. Robertson (1994) suggested that TS symptoms become increasingly unpredictable during adolescence, and estimated that 30-40% of tic symptoms resolve by late adolescence. The severity of symptoms varies, with milder cases going unnoticed and going to school as usual, and severe cases interfering with daily life and learning, especially when accompanied by behavioral symptoms such as attention deficit hyperactivity, obsessive-compulsive and other behavioral disorders. Treatment requires a combination of medication and psycho-behavioral therapy.
