The treatment of submucosal fibroids depends on the size of the fibroid and the location of the fibroid. If the submucosal fibroids are protruding into the uterine cavity, hysteroscopic electrosurgery of the submucosal fibroids is feasible. If the submucosal fibroid is only attached to the uterine cavity at the tip, submucosal fibroid removal can be performed vaginally. All of the above treatments have the potential for residual or recurrence and require postoperative mifepristone or GnRH-a to prevent recurrence and reduce residual fibroids. For women with other uterine pathologies and no fertility requirements, laparoscopic total hysterectomy may be performed.
