When your breathing (lungs) goes wrong, my temperature (warmth) here may be able to comfort your soul a little! Lung cancer is the most common malignant tumor in the world, with the incidence rate increasing year by year, lung cancer has become the main cause of cancer death. Most of them are above 40 years old, and smoking is the primary causative factor, followed by atmospheric pollution and physical and chemical carcinogenic factors. The most common symptom is irritating cough, often accompanied by coughing sputum, blood in sputum, chest tightness, chest pain, shortness of breath, fever and/or wasting; extra-pulmonary symptoms such as pestle and mortar finger (toe), joint swelling and pain may also be present. Chest X-ray examination, sputum cytology, fiberoptic bronchoscopy and biopsy are the main methods to diagnose lung cancer. The incidence of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) refers to all types of lung cancer except small cell carcinoma, which accounts for about 80% of all lung cancers, and about 2/3 of them already have distant metastatic lesions at the time of diagnosis, with an average survival of 4 to 5 months without anti-tumor therapy. The treatment of NSCLC needs to be considered in a comprehensive manner based on the patient’s physical condition (PS), pathological type and clinical stage (TNM) (using a combination of surgery-based and/or radiation and chemotherapy). Patients who are usually able to undergo radical surgery (stage I and II) are still treated mainly by surgery, but even with complete resection, some patients still die after surgery due to local recurrence or distant metastases, so these patients also need postoperative adjuvant therapy; for stage IIIA or some stage IIIB patients, a multidisciplinary comprehensive treatment combining surgery and radiotherapy/chemotherapy is needed to prolong the survival of patients as much as possible. For stage IIIB and stage IV patients with malignant pleural effusion, palliative treatment is mainly used to improve symptoms and enhance patients’ quality of life. Small cell lung cancer (SCLC) accounts for 20-25% of all lung cancers, and its biological behavior is significantly different from that of NSCLC. Smoking is closely related to the occurrence of SCLC, and 97% of patients have a history of multi-year, heavy smoking. The clinical characteristics are high malignancy, easy metastasis, sensitive to chemotherapy and radiotherapy, and need to adopt a comprehensive treatment mainly with chemotherapy. Diet: Patients with lung cancer, whether after surgery, radiotherapy or chemotherapy, should strengthen nutrition, and should eat high-calorie, high-protein and high-vitamin diet, and eat more fresh vegetables, fruits and miscellaneous grains. 1) After surgery, yam powder can be used for punching, and more new cabbage, white radish, winter melon, white pear, lotus root, etc.; 2) In radiotherapy, it is appropriate to eat more spinach, water chestnut, almond, peach kernel, white pear, loquat fruit, wolfberry; 3) In chemotherapy, it is appropriate to eat turtle, new carp, white fungus, mushroom, ginkgo, etc. Second, activities: Lung cancer patients should reasonably arrange rest and activities, avoid fatigue, and properly participate in social activities and work. After lung surgery, patients’ respiratory function is often affected and a series of complications such as shortness of breath, dyspnea, deformation of the affected side of the chest, upper limb dysfunction and muscle atrophy occur, thus reducing the quality of life. Some sports therapies to restore respiratory function and prevent complications can be carried out by referring to “sports therapy after general thoracic surgery”. Review indications: Patients with lung cancer should go to the hospital regularly for review to understand the changes of the disease. 1) Generally, patients should come to the outpatient clinic once a month within six months after treatment; once every three months after six months; once a year after the second year until the end of life. 2) If patients experience abnormal discomfort such as cough, chest tightness, chest pain, shortness of breath, loss of appetite, weakness, progressive wasting, etc., they should come to the hospital for follow-up examination at any time. 3) In addition to detailed medical history, diagnosis and treatment, diet and physical condition, X-ray, ultrasound, CT, MRI and ECT should be performed to evaluate lung, brain, bone, liver and adrenal gland. Precautions: 1) Pay attention to spiritual and psychological adjustment. 2) Pay attention to the regulation of diet, quit smoking and alcohol, for the former smoking patients should absolutely quit smoking; alcohol should be avoided as much as possible, do not drink strong alcohol. 3) Maintain an optimistic outlook on the world, try to cooperate and insist on completing various treatments, and strive to achieve the best results. 4) One should avoid going to crowded markets, public places, etc., and pay attention to keeping warm to avoid getting cold and flu, thus avoiding aggravating the burden of lung function. 5) For other precautions during radiotherapy and chemotherapy, please refer to “Precautions for radiotherapy and chemotherapy of lung cancer”!
