Iodophor is a type of disinfectant, which is a topical drug with a broad spectrum bactericidal effect and can be used for disinfection of bacteria, fungi, some viruses and protozoa infections. Compared to alcohol, iodophor is less irritating and more versatile. It can be used to disinfect general trauma such as cuts, burns and scalds, and has replaced disinfectants such as violet potion and iodine in terms of effectiveness. Mycobacterial infections of the skin and gynecological vaginal inflammation can also be treated with iodophor. Clinically, iodophor is used for skin disinfection before surgery, skin disinfection during blood draws and injections, and medical device disinfection by immersion. Because the solution is less stable, it usually needs to be stored away from light.
