How to fight the flu?

Influenza is an acute respiratory infection caused by the “influenza virus”, which is spread mainly by airborne droplets. Because of its highly contagious and “mutable” nature, it is often prone to cause outbreaks or worldwide pandemics. Influenza viruses are classified into three types: A, B and C, which are seasonally prevalent every year. Among the three viruses, influenza caused by A virus is the most contagious and the most serious. Influenza differs from the common cold in that it has a rapid onset, with severe systemic symptoms, high fever, headache, fatigue, general aches and pains, and a body temperature of 39-40 degrees Celsius, which usually lasts for 2-3 days and then decreases. After the systemic symptoms improve, the previously mild nasopharyngeal symptoms may become more severe, and a few patients may develop gastrointestinal symptoms such as loss of appetite, nausea and diarrhea. Currently, there is no definitive and effective treatment for influenza, but usually only by relieving symptoms and treating complications caused by influenza. In addition, treatment with antibiotics for influenza is ineffective. The most important thing to do when you have influenza is to rest and drink more water. It is recommended that within 2 days of the onset of the disease, the antiviral drug Oseltamivir phosphate granules or capsules can be taken orally. If the child has a fever and the body temperature is below 38.5°C, physical cooling can be used to reduce the fever; if the body temperature is above 38.5°C, oral antipyretic drugs should be taken. For example, ibuprofen suspension or Tylenol. If the child shows symptoms such as depression, he/she should go to the hospital in time. Cough caused by influenza is slow to recover and it is considered normal to last for 10 days or even half a month. If the body temperature is normal and the feeling of tiredness has disappeared, there is no need to worry too much. If the cough is severe, you can take some cough medicine to relieve the symptoms. However, if the cough persists and you do not see any relief even after taking medicine, you need to consider the possibility of pneumonia or bronchitis. During the high influenza season, parents should add or subtract clothes according to the temperature change in daily life. Wash your hands before and after meals, strengthen food hygiene, and pay attention to the disinfection of tableware, etc. It is also important to keep the room clean, open the windows for fresh air, dry bedding and change clothes regularly, and take children to less crowded public places. Reasonable dietary arrangements can improve your baby’s immunity. In addition to eating the right amount of fish, meat, chicken and eggs, you should eat more milk, soy products, vegetables and fruits in your daily diet. Also, pay attention to drinking more water. Ensure that children get enough sleep, which is not only beneficial to their growth and development, but also can enhance their immunity.
