Bilateral paraventricular ischemic foci is a term used in CT or MRI examinations of the head. It is commonly caused by atherosclerosis, stenosis and occlusion of the terminal branches of the middle cerebral arteries bilaterally. These patients mostly have underlying diseases such as hypertension, diabetes mellitus and hyperlipidemia that are poorly controlled and have led to stenosis and occlusion of the terminal branches of the cerebral vessels for a long time, resulting in the manifestation of such paraventricular ischemic foci. These patients may have symptoms such as long-term dizziness, unresponsiveness, and weakness of limbs, etc. The current treatment is mainly based on symptomatic treatment such as controlling risk factors, anti-platelet aggregation, statins, and anti-atherosclerosis, dilation, improving blood supply to the brain, and nerve nutrition.
