What is an ultrasound of the uterine adnexa?

Ultrasound examination of the uterine adnexa focuses on the common lesions of the uterine adnexa, and the patient needs to hold urine to fill the bladder during the ultrasound. For younger girls, the examination should focus on the development of the uterus for abnormalities, such as uterine agenesis, double uterus, bicornuate uterus, vestigial uterus and longitudinal uterus, etc. The size and development of the ovaries on both sides should be observed. For women in their reproductive years, the examination should focus on the presence of fibroids in the uterus, cysts and polyps in the cervix, endometrial lesions, and adnexal masses, as well as monitoring the development of follicles and ovulation. For postmenopausal elderly women, ultrasound is usually done to observe the size of the uterus, the thickness of the endometrium, and whether there are any lesions in the bilateral adnexal areas.
