Cracked elbow skin may be caused by physiological factors such as dry skin, or it may be caused by neurodermatitis, ichthyosis and other diseases. 1. Physiological factors: If the indoor air is dry, it may lead to excessive evaporation of water from the skin surface, resulting in dry skin and cracked elbows; and factors such as excessive cleansing and insufficient water intake may also lead to dry skin and cracked elbows. 2. Certain diseases: common diseases such as neurodermatitis, ichthyosis and so on. (1) Neurogenic dermatitis: Neurogenic dermatitis is caused by prolonged and continuous friction and scratching, resulting in thickening of the skin. It may be related to factors such as excessive mental stress, endocrine disorders, heavy consumption of spicy and stimulating foods, and local contact with irritating substances. Patients can appear single or multiple flat papules fusion of moss-like changes, covered with a small amount of scales, if the lesions appear in the upper limbs, can be manifested as the elbow peeling dry cracks. (2) Ichthyosis: Ichthyosis is a kind of keratinization disorder skin disease, which may be related to heredity, malignant tumor, autoimmune disease and other factors. Patients can appear dry skin, flaking, ichthyosquamous plaques, mostly occurring in the limbs on the extensor side, can be manifested as the elbow peeling and cracking. When the elbow skin cracks, after excluding physiological factors, it is recommended that the patient go to the regular hospital dermatology department for a clear diagnosis, and follow the doctor’s instructions to standardize the treatment.
