Lactulose dosage for children

Lactulose, known generically as Lactulose Oral Solution, is commonly used in children with chronic or habitual constipation and the clinical need to maintain soft stools, and should be swallowed in a single dose at breakfast, with the following dosage: for children aged 7-14 years, 15 ml per day; for children aged 1-6 years, 5-10 ml per day; and for infants, 5 ml per day. The exact course of treatment depends on the situation.
The drug is converted into organic acids by digestive flora in the colon, which decreases the pH in the intestine and retains water and increases the volume of feces, thus stimulating peristalsis of the colon, keeping the stools open and relieving constipation, as well as restoring the physiological rhythm of the colon, etc.
