Are the complications of diabetes really that bad?

  Some relevant data show that “in 2013, about 114 million people in China have been diagnosed with diabetes, of which 11.6% are adults aged 18 and above. An increasing number of people are suffering from diabetes. Diabetic complications are common chronic complications that are transformed by diabetic lesions, can involve one organ or multiple organs, and are the leading cause of death in people with diabetes.  Diabetic complications include: ketoacidosis, non-ketotic hyperosmolar coma, lactic acidosis, heart disease, cerebrovascular disease, extremity gangrene, neuropathy, nephropathy, retinopathy, and multiple infections caused by diabetes.  According to the survey results of the Retrospective Analysis of Chronic Complications and Related Macrovascular Lesions in Hospitalized Diabetic Patients Nationwide, the prevalence of diabetic complications in China were 31.9% for hypertension; 12.2% for cerebrovascular disease; 15.9% for cardiovascular lesions; 5.0% for lower limb vascular lesions; 34.3% for eye disorders; 33.6% for renal disease; and 60.3% for neuropathy. The total prevalence of diabetic complications was 73.2%. In other words, 1/3 of Chinese diabetics have hypertension, one-third have macrovascular disease (including cerebrovascular cardiovascular), one-third have eye disease, and two-thirds have neuropathy.  Although diabetes is scary, it is not drug-free. We can take surgical weight loss surgery to treat diabetes, get rid of the disease in one operation and be happy for a lifetime.
