How long does it take for an infant to heal from pneumonia?

  Pediatric pneumonia is one of the most common respiratory illnesses in children, and it can occur in all seasons, with infants and children up to 3 years of age being prone to it in the winter and spring.  The clinical manifestations of pediatric pneumonia include fever, cough, shortness of breath, dyspnea, and fine rales in the lungs, but also coughing and wheezing without fever. Pneumonia caused by bacteria and viruses is the most common. The course of treatment is generally 7 to 10 days, and for mycoplasma and chlamydia infections, the course of antibiotics requires 10 to 14 days, depending on the individual’s resistance and the type of pneumonia, and if it is a Staphylococcus aureus infection the course of treatment should be extended. The standard of cure for pneumonia is complete remission of body temperature, respiratory symptoms improve, body temperature subsided 2 to 3 days, can be used as antibiotic discontinuation criteria. It is best to do a sputum bacterial culture before medication according to the different types of infection to choose a sensitive antibiotic, has reached a complete cure, such as incomplete treatment, prone to recurrent attacks, causing a variety of serious complications, affecting the child’s development.  The treatment should also strengthen the baby’s life care, pay attention to warmth, ensure sufficient sleep, keep the indoor air fresh, humidity appropriate, at about 60%, to prevent another cold, causing pneumonia recurrence, usually reasonable feeding, enhance the baby’s ability to resist disease.
