The heart is generally located to the left of the middle of the chest. The location of the heart is in the anterior part of the human chest, to the left of the middle of the chest, between the 2nd-5th ribs, with about 2/3 of the heart located on the left side of the sternum and the remaining 1/3 on the right side of the sternum. The projected position of the heart’s apex on the body surface corresponds to the fifth left intercostal space, about 5 cm from the sternum. The heart has four chambers, namely the left atrium, left ventricle, right atrium and right ventricle. There is an atrioventricular valve between the atria and ventricles, a mitral valve between the left atrium and left ventricle, and a tricuspid valve between the right atrium and right ventricle. Heart failure, insufficient blood supply to the myocardium and atherosclerosis may occur if you experience frequent discomfort such as palpitations, chest tightness, shortness of breath, dyspnea, coughing up pink frothy sputum and a dry cough at night.
