How big a bilateral thyroid nodule is harmful

Bilateral thyroid nodules are also called multiple nodules in both lobes of the thyroid gland. The main dangers include affecting the function of the thyroid gland, pressure symptoms and cancer.
1. Affecting thyroid function: some functional thyroid nodules can be combined with abnormal thyroid function. If thyroid nodules are combined with hyperthyroidism, oral anti-thyroid drugs such as methimazole should be taken under the instruction of doctor.
2. Symptoms of compression: If the patient’s thyroid nodules in bilateral lobes are relatively large, it is easy for the patient to have symptoms of compression, such as cough, shortness of breath and dyspnea when the trachea is compressed; dysarthria when the laryngeal reentry nerves are affected; and dysphagia and pain when the esophagus is compressed.
3. Carcinoma: if multiple nodules in bilateral lobes of the thyroid gland have the tendency of malignant transformation or are complicated with thyroid cancer, some of the patients may have metastasis to lymphatic and distant organs, and headache, chest pain and other symptoms may occur.
Patients who have been clearly diagnosed with multiple nodules in both lobes of the thyroid gland should go to regular hospitals for consultation.
