What is myo

Myo is the abbreviation of myoglobin. Myoglobin is a small molecule protein that exists in large quantities in the heart muscle and skeletal muscle of the human body, and its metabolism is mainly through the kidneys, because myoglobin is mainly metabolized by the kidneys. Serum myoglobin can be used as one of the indicators for the diagnosis of early acute myocardial infarction. In addition to diagnosing acute myocardial infarction, elevated myoglobin can be seen in diseases such as myocarditis, cardiac ischemia, cardiogenic shock, and inadequate blood supply to the heart. A low myoglobin level is not clinically significant and represents a decrease in oxygen-binding protein in the myocardium, which does not require special treatment.
