What causes eardrum bulging

Eardrum bulging may be caused by herpetic tympanitis, acute suppurative otitis media, jugular vein bulboma and other diseases.
1. Herpetic tympanitis: it is considered to be related to viral infection, which may manifest as ear pain, fever, etc. The tympanic membrane is congested with purplish-red blood blisters formed on the surface as seen in otoscopy.
2. Acute suppurative otitis media: there may be a history of acute epiglottitis, with bacterial infection at a later stage, accompanied by ear pain, fever, etc. When the tympanic membrane is not perforated, the tympanic membrane swells outward due to the collection of purulent secretion in the tympanic cavity.
3. Jugular vein bulboma: the tumor destroys the lower wall of the tympanic cavity and enters into the tympanic cavity, which may cause tympanic membrane bulging.
The tympanic membrane bulging may also be caused by middle ear cholesteatoma and other diseases, which need to be combined with clinical symptoms, corresponding auxiliary examination and comprehensive analysis, it is recommended to consult the doctor in time to clarify the cause and target treatment.
