The prognosis of myocarditis depends on its etiology, clinical manifestations, and histologic type. About 50% of patients with acute myocarditis recover within 2 to 4 weeks. Patients with acute myocarditis have atypical symptoms, less severe hemodynamic disturbances, and greater variability in the degree of myocardial inflammation. Usually 50% of patients recover within 2 to 4 weeks. However, about 25% of cases develop persistent cardiac dysfunction, and 12% to 25% of cases deteriorate sharply or die or progress to patients with advanced dilated cardiomyopathy requiring heart transplantation. Patients are advised to seek prompt medical attention for symptoms such as dyspnea, palpitations, and unexplained syncope, and early medical intervention can effectively improve the patient’s prognosis.
