What to do for post-operative rehabilitation of coronary artery bypass graft

Postoperative health guidance 1. The diet of postoperative patients should mainly reduce the intake of saturated fatty acids and cholesterol, as well as control total calories and increase physical activity to achieve caloric balance. Main diet – staple food in addition to rice and flour, with appropriate mix of grains and beans. Lean meat (chicken, fish 100 to 150 grams per day, no fatty meat, less animal offal. Use vegetable oil, no or less animal oil. Green vegetables and fruits are beneficial to eat more. Peanuts, walnuts can often eat, but not in excess. Salt should be controlled, the daily intake of 5-6 grams of salt for adults is enough, it is recommended to choose commercially available low sodium salt. The most beneficial drinks are plain water and tea, do not drink more sugary drinks. 2. Appropriate activities should be done in the early postoperative period and recovery period. When patients engage in sports for the first time after surgery, pulse must be taken, and exercise should be carried out strictly according to the exercise prescription, neither “conservative” nor “aggressive”, but gradual and consistent. Before exercise to do preparatory activities, if in the exercise of chest tightness, chest pain, breathlessness, dizziness, rapid heartbeat and other discomfort, should immediately stop the activity, and promptly go to the hospital for medical treatment. The following is the recommended activity plan: Week 1: five-minute walks twice a day. Week 2: Ten-minute walks twice a day. Week 3: 20 minutes of walking twice a day. Week 4: should gradually increase to thirty minutes of walking per day. 3.Adherence to medication – Blood pressure should be kept stable after surgery. High blood pressure will increase the burden on the heart, and low blood pressure will hinder the blood flow in the “bridge”. If there is no contraindication, enteric aspirin should be taken for life as much as possible to prevent the formation of blood clots in the “bridge”. After discharge from the hospital, patients should take their medications exactly as directed by their physician, with the following caveats: (1) Know the name and appearance of each medication taken. (2) Follow the doctor’s instructions and take the medication on time. (3) Do not stop or add medications without the doctor’s permission. 4. Regular monitoring – Patients should be reviewed regularly at the hospital after surgery. An electrocardiogram, isotope or coronary angiogram should be done to monitor whether the “bridge” is open or not. How should I arrange my diet and living after bypass surgery? 1. Take the medication strictly according to the doctor’s prescription, after the bypass surgery, you usually have to take anticoagulation treatment for a period of time, and the type of medication, dose and course of treatment vary from person to person. So when you have bypass surgery, you must ask the doctor in charge of the specific program of anticoagulation, and strictly implement. If you have other medications, you should also take them strictly on time and in the right amount. 2.After bypass surgery you still need to choose a light diet rich in vitamins, low in animal fat, low in cholesterol and low in calories. Overeating is prohibited. Diabetic patients still need to limit their daily intake of sugar after surgery and actively treat their diabetes. 3.If you smoke, you should resolve to quit smoking after surgery. Smoking is one of the risk factors for coronary heart disease. Because smoking produces carbon monoxide, nicotine and other harmful substances. This can damage the heart and lung function, and can damage the lining of blood vessels and increase platelet adhesion and clumping. In addition, because of its stimulation of myocardial tissue, the release of catecholamines, which cause vasospasm and reduce the blood supply to the heart muscle. High concentration of carbon monoxide can also induce arrhythmia and ventricular fibrillation, which is very dangerous, therefore, you are advised not to smoke again. 4.Since myocardial ischemia may occur after bypass surgery, you should also pay attention to whether you have angina attacks after surgery and whether the nature of the pain is the same as before. If so, you should go to the hospital in time for examination.
