Do you need a rabies vaccination for a mouse bite?

A rat bite requires a rabies vaccination. Although rats are not the main source of rabies infection in China, it cannot be ruled out that rats carry the rabies virus, so once bitten by a rat, rabies vaccination is recommended. Animals with rabies virus are the infectious source of rabies. The main infectious source of rabies in China is sick dogs, followed by domestic animals such as cats, pigs, cattle and horses, and wild animals such as bats, wolves and foxes are the main infectious source in developed countries. Rabies is a lethal disease, and once it develops, the mortality rate can reach 100%. Once bitten by a rat, the patient needs to treat the wound himself, rinse it with water or soapy water alternately for at least 15-30 minutes, then disinfect it with iodophor and go to the hospital infection department for rabies vaccination in time, which can effectively avoid rabies. If the wound is not very deep and is only a superficial abrasion, the rabies vaccine can produce complete immunity to the rabies virus after 5 injections within 28 days. If the wound is very deep and bleeding, in addition to the rabies vaccine, the patient must also be injected with tetanus antitoxin.
