We know that the cause of cervical cancer is identified as HPV infection, also known as human papillomavirus infection. How is HPV infection contracted? It is mainly transmitted through sexual intercourse. So we are saying that if you have multiple sexual partners, you are very susceptible to HPV infection and you may get cervical cancer. Some women may ask, “I only have one sexual partner who is my lover, why would I get HPV infection? Or why would I develop cervical cancer? This involves the fact that HPV infection is sexually transmitted, but if a woman has only one sexual partner, that is her lover. But on the other hand, a man who has multiple partners, multiple female sexual partners, can be infected with HPV, and he can transmit his HPV infection to his lover. So if both partners have a single sexual partner and both partners are free of HPV, then it’s basically safe to say that you’re not going to get cervical cancer. On the other hand, if one spouse is infected with HPV, the other spouse may be infected with HPV and may develop cervical cancer.
