Causes of Myopia in Children

The causes of myopia in children mainly include genetic factors and bad eye habits.
1. Genetic factors: Genetic factors play an important role in the development of myopia. Myopia is a polygenic disease, and it is not possible to accurately predict the incidence of myopia and the severity of myopia in future generations based on the patient’s family history. However, if there are many myopes in the family, the risk of myopia in the offspring is higher than that of the general population.
2. Bad eye habits: Bad eye habits are controllable factors in the prevention of myopia, mainly including improper reading and writing postures, being too close to books, playing with electronic products such as cell phones, TVs and computers for a long period of time, and having few outdoor activities.
It is recommended that children with myopia should visit the hospital in time to assess their condition and follow the doctor’s instructions for treatment.
