Is it normal to be Helicobacter pylori positive at 132 dpm?

The normal values for carbon 13 and carbon 14 breath tests are different, but a positive 132 dpm for H. pylori is not normal and suggests the presence of H. pylori infection. The common methods of detecting H. pylori are carbon 13 and carbon 14 breath test, in which the normal value of carbon 14 breath test is 0~100bpm, while the normal value of carbon 13 breath test is 0~4bpm, so the H. pylori test result of 132bpm is far beyond the normal range, suggesting the existence of H. pylori infection. Patients with H. pylori infection usually need to be treated with quadruple therapy, i.e. two antibiotics combined with a proton pump inhibitor and a bismuth agent, such as lansoprazole, bismuth potassium citrate combined with amoxicillin and metronidazole. Specific treatment options need to be chosen according to the doctor’s prescription. Abnormal H. pylori test results are recommended to go to the hospital.
