Cerebral infarction does not necessarily lead to Alzheimer’s disease.
Dementia generally refers to Alzheimer’s disease, which is a chronic degenerative disease of the nervous system, mostly seen in the elderly, the cause and pathogenesis of the disease is still unclear, and may be related to genetic mutation, long time out of society, low cultural level and other factors.
Cerebral infarction is a kind of cerebrovascular disease, and Alzheimer’s disease is not directly related, so it can not be said that cerebral infarction will get Alzheimer’s disease.
However, there is another major type of Alzheimer’s disease, i.e. vascular dementia, which has a clear correlation with cerebral infarction. It can be caused by a single large-scale cerebral infarction that directly affects cognitive function, or by multiple cerebral infarctions that gradually aggravate the cognitive dysfunction.
In conclusion, cerebral infarction does not necessarily lead to dementia, but it significantly increases the risk of vascular dementia.
