Oral rehydration salts bulk dosage for infants



Oral rehydration salts are divided into three kinds, the regular dosage of oral rehydration salts (Ⅰ) and (Ⅱ) is to be taken by dissolving one sachet in 500ml of lukewarm water, and taking 3000ml per day until the diarrhea stops; Oral rehydration salts (Ⅲ) is used for children, starting with 50ml/kg within 4 hours, and infants and young children need to be given in small amounts or in multiple times, or follow the doctor’s instructions for the medication.

Oral rehydration salts (I) and (II) are used to treat mild to moderate dehydration due to diarrhea. Adverse reactions are gastrointestinal and are seen as nausea and irritation. In addition, it is contraindicated in patients with oliguria or anuria, severe diarrhea or vomiting, impaired glucose absorption, intestinal obstruction, intestinal paralysis and intestinal perforation.

Oral Rehydration Salts Bulk (III) is primarily used to treat mild to moderate dehydration due to diarrhea, and may also be used to replace sodium, potassium, and chloride. Patients may experience adverse reactions such as mild nausea and vomiting when they first start using this medication.

In addition, it is contraindicated in patients who are allergic to the ingredients of Oral Rehydration Salts (Ⅲ), in patients suffering from renal insufficiency, severe water loss or diarrhea, glucose not readily absorbed, inability to be taken orally, intestinal obstruction, intestinal paralysis, intestinal perforation, acid-base disorders accompanied by metabolic alkalosis, and is generally not used in preterm infants, and is used with caution by pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers after weighing the pros and cons of using the drug.
