Can you bungee jump with high myopia?

Retinal detachment is more likely to occur when highly myopic patients participate in extreme sports like bungee jumping, so bungee jumping is not recommended for highly myopic patients.
Myopia is a refractive state in which parallel light rays are focused before the retina after passing through the refractive system of the eye in a relaxed state of adjustment. Due to the prolongation of the eye axis, the posterior pole of the eyeball is dilated and the retina is more fragile, which makes patients with high myopia susceptible to fundus lesions such as retinal tears and retinal degeneration. When bungee jumping downward at a faster speed, patients have a higher likelihood of retinal detachment.
In order to protect the patient’s vision and avoid serious complications such as retinal detachment, it is not recommended for highly myopic patients to participate in bungee jumping and other strenuous sports. Patients with high myopia can choose some gentle sports such as walking, yoga, boxing, jogging, etc., and try to avoid extreme sports.
Patients with significant vision loss are advised to consult a doctor to assess their condition and follow the doctor’s instructions.
