How long can an elderly person live with advanced lung cancer?

Surgery is usually not recommended for advanced lung cancer in the elderly, and the 5-year survival rate is about 5% after general treatment. Lung cancer is a relatively common respiratory disease. About 86% of patients can die within 5 years after lung cancer is diagnosed. The survival rate of advanced lung cancer is even lower due to organ dysfunction and other complications that can occur in the elderly population. Elderly patients with advanced lung cancer generally cannot be treated with surgical resection and have a poor prognosis. Targeted drug therapy as well as immunotherapy can be performed to prolong survival time and improve the quality of life. In general, the 5-year survival rate can reach about 5%, which can lead to a median survival time of 2-3 years for patients. If patients give up treatment, their median survival time is usually less than 6 months. In addition, patients with advanced lung cancer can eat more foods rich in high-quality protein, such as fish, lean meat, milk, etc., and consume more fresh vegetables and fruits appropriately.
