The cause of pharyngitis is mainly due to congestion of the mucosal layer of the pharynx and infiltration of surrounding lymphocytes, which can also be seen as infiltration of leukocytes or plasma cells. If the clinical manifestations are chronic pharyngitis, the systemic symptoms are not too obvious and mainly local symptoms are dominant. Various chronic pharyngitis basically present with discomfort in the pharynx, foreign body sensation, itching, burning, dryness or irritation, and possibly a slight painful sensation, mainly caused by secretions and irritation of hypertrophic lymphoid follicles, with occasional coughing accompanied by nausea. Examination by laryngoscopy reveals diffuse congestion of the mucosa, vasodilatation with a small amount of secretion attached, and a swollen or flaccid prolonged uvula.
