Pemetrexed plus carboplatin chemotherapy regimen is mainly used for the treatment of advanced non-small cell lung adenocarcinoma and malignant pleural mesothelioma in clinic. Pemetrexed, or pemetrexed disodium for injection, is a multi-target folate antagonist that inhibits cell replication and is commonly used in non-small cell lung cancer and malignant pleural mesothelioma, often in combination with carboplatin. The most common adverse reactions to this drug when used alone include fatigue, nausea, and loss of appetite. It is contraindicated in persons who are allergic to pemetrexed and in persons who are concomitantly vaccinated against yellow fever. Carboplatin, commonly available in injectable form, is indicated for the treatment of advanced ovarian cancer of epithelial origin, small cell lung cancer, and squamous carcinoma of the head and neck. Common adverse reactions include leukopenia, neutropenia, thrombocytopenia, etc. It is contraindicated in patients with severe renal insufficiency and severe myelosuppression, patients with a history of allergy to carboplatin and other platinum-containing compounds, patients with hemorrhagic neoplasms, and pregnant and lactating women.
