Predictors of outcome in children with cerebral palsy

The outcome of children with cerebral palsy is often predicted based on the following indicators: 1. Sitting by 2 years of age, crawling by 2.5 years of age => mostly able to walk, still unable to sit at 4 years of age, still with strong infantile primitive reflexes at 1.5 years of age => poor prognosis, most unable to walk; 2. 2.2 The prognosis for tetraplegia varies depending on the degree of impairment, usually only one-third of the children can walk independently and take care of themselves, while the other one-third need to use assistive devices to help them walk. 2.3 About three-quarters of children with tardive dyskinesia can walk, and most children with dyskinesia can also walk. 2.5 The prognosis for the hypotonic and rigid forms is usually poor, with most children unable to walk.
