Is it possible to have hypopharyngeal cancer for 5 years without recurrence?

It is possible for hypopharyngeal cancer not to recur for 5 years. The time period in which hypopharyngeal cancer is prone to recurrence is within 2 years after the end of treatment. And the recurrence probability gradually decreases within 2~5 years after the treatment of hypopharyngeal cancer. If the disease has not progressed for 5 years after the end of treatment, the probability of recurrence will continue to decrease compared with the previous period, but it is not guaranteed that there will be no recurrence. The vast majority of hypopharyngeal cancers are squamous cell carcinoma and most of them are poorly differentiated, and the clinical statistics of 5-year survival rate is 25%~40%. However, active treatment is still needed to prolong the survival time and improve the quality of patients’ survival. It is suggested that patients should keep a good mindset in daily life, actively cooperate with treatment and focus on self-management to help control the development of the disease; meanwhile, they should have regular review so that doctors can understand the treatment effect and adjust the treatment plan in time.
