Is lung perforation serious?

Pulmonary perforation is a relatively serious disease because it is mainly caused by trauma, such as rib fractures that puncture the lung tissue or even cause rupture of the pleural cavity, resulting in hemothorax, fluid pneumothorax, and tension pneumothorax, respectively. In this case, the normal lung tissue will be compressed, causing atrophy and restricting the respiratory function of the lung, resulting in respiratory distress and even hypoxemia, accompanied by hypercapnia and respiratory failure. It may also be combined with serious infections, causing diffuse pneumonia and extremely unstable vital signs, or even multi-organ failure leading to shock and eventually death. Therefore, it is necessary to take CT of both lungs and stabilize the vital signs, and actively treat accordingly.
