Spicy, stimulating foods are not recommended for rabies vaccinations, so coffee is not recommended. Coffee or other foods that are stimulating can affect the effectiveness of the rabies vaccine. The rabies vaccine works primarily by promoting the body’s immune cells, or B lymphocytes, to produce antibodies to the rabies virus to protect against rabies infection. People with normal resistance are usually able to produce antibodies to the rabies virus after vaccination. Colds, fever, eating irritating foods, and excessive exercise during the vaccination period can affect the effectiveness of the rabies vaccine. Rabies is a preventable but untreatable disease, and the rabies vaccine is the only effective measure to prevent infection with the rabies virus.
