The principles of treatment for atrophic gastric sinusitis are inhibition of gastric acid secretion, protection of gastric mucosa, symptomatic and TCM treatment. To inhibit the secretion of gastric acid, proton pump inhibitors or H2 antibody blockers, i.e. omeprazole, rabeprazole, cimetidine, ranitidine, etc., are often applied. Drugs to protect the gastric mucosa include aluminum sulfate and bismuth pectin. Patients with combined H. pylori infection should also be treated with anti-H. pylori therapy, using a combination of one or two antibiotics plus a proton pump inhibitor. Commonly used regimens are amoxicillin plus omeprazole, amoxicillin plus clarithromycin plus + omeprazole, which can be replaced with rabeprazole, or other proton pump inhibitors. Atrophic gastritis remission is difficult, and most will progress gradually. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) treatment and a regular course of therapy may play an important role in improvement.
