Lung cancer is a mass in which cells on the lung grow out of control and form a mass. There are two main types of lung cancer: non-small cell lung cancer and small cell lung cancer. These two types have different treatment methods. Lung cancer is a very common malignant tumor and its incidence is on the rise in China. What are the functions of the lungs? The lungs consist of five lobes, with the right lung consisting of three lobes and the left lung consisting of two. When the body breathes in, the lungs absorb oxygen from the outside air and transmit it to the rest of the body through the bloodstream. The body uses the oxygen and produces carbon dioxide, which is carried to the lungs through the bloodstream and sent out of the body when the body exhales. How is lung cancer staged? Clinically, the stage indicates the extent of the tumor, such as the location and degree of tumor growth, whether the tumor has spread, and whether the tumor has affected the function of other organs in the body. Lung cancer is divided into Stage 0, Stage I (Phase 1), Stage II (Phase 2), Stage III (Phase 3), and Stage IV (Phase 4). For detailed staging, please consult with a lung cancer specialist. How to treat lung cancer? Lung cancer is usually treatable regardless of the size and location of the tumor and whether it has spread. The choice of treatment for lung cancer depends on the following factors: the size and location of the tumor, whether the tumor has spread, and the patient’s physical condition. There are four basic methods of lung cancer treatment: surgical resection, radiation therapy, chemotherapy and targeted drug therapy. The scope of surgical resection includes the lung cancer mass (not only the lung cancer mass is removed, but also some of the normal tissues around the lung cancer mass, that is, to ensure that there is no tumor tissue at the cutting edge) and adjacent lymph nodes. Non-small cell lung cancer is usually treated with a combination of treatments, or a combination of treatments. Small cell lung cancer is usually treated with a combination of chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy. When deciding to do a particular treatment, patients and their families should check with their doctors about all possible treatment options, including clinical trials. Adverse effects from lung cancer treatment are usually transient and can be prevented. How to treat lung cancer? First, learn part of the basics of tumor diagnosis and establish good communication with oncologists; second, seek help by participating in organizations such as patient associations; and finally, knowing what patients themselves and their surrounding family and friends think can make patients more active in cooperating with treatment and taking care of themselves. Although the diagnosis of lung cancer is a serious matter, the patient himself must insist on hope and deal with the oncologist together.
