Should I apply cold compresses for 24 hours or 48 hours after breaking my foot?

The time of cold compress after a broken foot needs to be determined according to the specific injury, not a generalization. After ankle sprain, generally within 24 hours for acute bleeding, you can choose to intermittent cold compress, each cold compress for about 15-20 minutes, once every 2 hours, to reduce local bleeding and swelling, to relieve pain. If it is a serious foot fracture, the cold compress time can be extended to 48 hours after the fracture. And 48 hours after the injury can be hot compress to promote blood circulation and accelerate the swelling. When applying cold compress after foot fracture, patients can wrap the ice with towel or clothing to avoid direct contact with local skin and frostbite. In case of severe pain, routine X-ray examination is required at the orthopedic department of the hospital to determine whether a fracture has occurred. If it is only soft tissue injury such as ligament, after rest and treatment, it can generally recover in about 1-2 weeks.
