Diarrhea does not necessarily lower white blood cells, but may also cause them to rise.
Common causes of diarrhea are digestive disorders such as bacterial enteritis and viral enteritis. If the diarrhea is caused by bacterial enteritis, the patient may show elevated white blood cells and will not experience a decrease in white blood cells. However, if the diarrhea is caused by viral enteritis, such as rotavirus enteritis, norovirus enteritis, etc., the patient may show a decrease in white blood cells.
