What is a single umbilical artery

A condition in which the fetus has only one umbilical artery during the growth and development stage is called single umbilical artery. Normally, the fetus will have two umbilical arteries during the developmental stage, and when the organism shows symptoms of a single umbilical artery, it signals that the organism will have a higher than normal probability of having organ malformations. Such problems may be related to chromosomal abnormalities, abnormal development of the umbilical artery in the embryo, and other reasons. In the case of single umbilical artery, it is advisable to examine the state of the other organs in detail to exclude the presence of malformations in other parts of the body, especially in the heart, which should be taken into account in time. If single umbilical artery symptoms are diagnosed, it is recommended that standardized treatment be carried out as soon as possible in order to reduce the adverse effects of the disease.
