Paeonia lactiflora and licorice soup has the effect of acidity and sweetness in transforming yin, easing urgency and relieving pain (relieving the symptoms of more urgent pain).
Paeonia lactiflora and Glycyrrhiza glabra decoction can be used for treating deficiency of yin and blood, poor blood circulation, contracture of the legs and feet or pain in the abdomen; typhoid fever (illness caused by fever due to feeling of cold) with floating pulse, spontaneous sweating (involuntary sweating during the daytime which is aggravated by a little movement), counting of urine, upsetting and slight malignant cold (fear of cold), and warmth of the feet.

The contraindications and adverse effects of Paeoniae Radix Glycyrrhizae Tang are not clear at present.
