If a person is bitten by a dog with rabies and is worried about being infected with rabies, a rabies vaccination and, if necessary, a rabies serum, can reduce the incidence of rabies to a very low range, so a rabies vaccination works for the vast majority of people. The probability of getting rabies after being bitten by a rabid dog can reach 15-30%, and although the probability does not reach close to 100%, rabies will definitely kill you if it strikes. The first injection is recommended to be given within 24 hours. If the dog bite is severe, rabies immunoglobulin or rabies serum should be injected into the bite site for infiltration to block the rabies virus from continuing infection through the wound. The rabies vaccine can be administered at the same time to produce the appropriate antibodies after 1-2 weeks, thus serving the purpose of avoiding rabies attacks.
