There is no difference between hemoptysis and coughing up blood, both belong to the same concept. Hemoptysis refers to bleeding from below the larynx, which is expelled from the body by coughing. It is usually seen in respiratory system diseases, such as bronchitis, pneumonia, bronchiectasis and tuberculosis, which can have clinical symptoms of hemoptysis or coughing up blood. When hemoptysis or coughing up blood occurs, CT examination of the lung should be completed promptly for clarification. If the hemoptysis is severe, drugs such as posterior pituitary hormone should be given to stop the hemorrhage. If necessary, further bronchoscopy should be performed to clarify the cause and take targeted treatment.
