A category 5 thyroid nodule is one that is highly suggestive of malignancy, with a malignancy rate of >90%, and a puncture result that is mostly malignant, but may still have a benign result.
The TI-RADS classification is based on the risk of malignancy based on imaging findings such as thyroid ultrasound, where a category 5 nodule is highly suggestive of malignancy, with a malignancy rate of >90%, meaning that the risk of the nodule being the result of a malignant tumor such as thyroid cancer is >90%, but there is some possibility that it is due to a thyroid adenoma, for example.
Generally 5 types of nodules can be selected according to the presence of metastatic lymph nodes, the size and location of the nodule for follow-up, puncture biopsy, etc., and surgery and radionuclide treatment if necessary.
Patients are advised to seek prompt medical attention and follow the doctor’s instructions for further examination and treatment.
