For patients with stage 4 cirrhosis, shunt surgery may be considered if their Child~Pugh grading is A or B. If the grading is C, surgery is usually not performed. For patients who have reached stage 4 cirrhosis, shunt surgery can be considered if their Child~Pugh grading is A or B. Procedures include nonselective portosystemic shunt surgery, which completely diverts portal blood entering the liver to the near-body circulation, and selective portosystemic shunt surgery, which preserves portal blood flow to the liver and also reduces the pressure in the esophagogastric fundus varices. If the Child~Pugh grade is C, when the patient’s general condition is poor, liver function is not good, and the risk of surgery is high, try to choose to take non-surgical treatment, such as rehydration, endoscopic treatment and so on.
