Arthritis is a connective tissue disorder that causes inflammation of one or more joints and associated tissues and is a very common disability. In some types of arthritis, the tissues around the joint are red, warm and swollen, often painful and more fragile. The condition may cause damage to the bones or surrounding tissues, resulting in deformity and immobility. However, in most cases, early treatment can prevent disability and reduce pain. For extreme cases, artificial joints are surgically implanted to restore flexibility and mobility. Arthritis is a painful joint condition: Osteoarthritis is defined by the acronym: OA —-osteoarthritis: The normal process of synthesis and degradation of articular cartilage cells, extracellular matrix, and subchondral bone is interrupted and out of balance due to the interaction of mechanical and biological factors, manifested by cartilage damage, thinning, and loss of function. The most common manifestations are softening of articular cartilage, fibrosis, ulceration, sclerosis of subchondral bone, and the formation of bone fragments (bone spurs). There are also subchondral bone cysts. Factors predisposing to osteoarthritis: 1. Weight: Body mass index (BMI, i.e., weight divided by height squared) is significantly associated with knee arthritis, but not with hip arthritis. 2. Age: The incidence of knee osteoarthritis increases by 20 every 5 years %. 3, gender: osteoarthritis of the knee is more common in women than in men, and there is no significant gender difference in the incidence of OA of the hip. 4, bone density: the bone mineral density (BMD) of the subchondral bone of the joint, can affect the stress under load on the articular cartilage. However, multivariate analysis of osteoarthritis and BMD are not related to the clinical findings of OA and osteoporosis rarely coexist. 5, occupation: male heavy physical labor and the incidence of knee OA is positively correlated, squatting or kneeling physical work for more than 30 minutes is positively correlated. 6, sports injuries: trauma to the hip joint is associated with the occurrence of OA in the hip joint, while the meniscus of the knee, cruciate ligament injury is directly related to OA.
