Osteoarthritis, also known as proliferative arthritis, age-related arthritis, degenerative arthritis, and hypertrophic arthritis, is a chronic joint disease in which the main changes are degenerative joint cartilage disease and secondary osteophytes. According to the pathogenic factors, it is divided into primary osteoarthrosis and secondary osteoarthrosis. In China, secondary osteoarthrosis is more common and primary osteoarthritis is less common. Where normal joints gradually degenerate for no apparent reason, it is called primary osteoarthropathy; if the cartilage is destroyed or the joint structure is changed for some known reason, and later degenerative changes are caused by factors such as friction or pressure imbalance on the joint surface, it is called secondary osteoarthropathy.
