Children with heavy phlegm-dampness can be manifested as cough and phlegm, nausea and vomiting, chest and epigastric congestion (chest and abdomen feel full and stuffy) and other symptoms, can be adjusted through acupuncture or medication.
1. Acupuncture: Foot Sanli, Fenglong, Yanglingquan, Yinlingquan, Zhongkou, Tianshu, Shui and other acupoints are often used for acupuncture, which needs to be operated by professional doctors.
2. Medication: medicines that dry dampness and resolve phlegm (dispel dampness and resolve phlegm by drying dampness) can be taken, such as Er Chen Tang and Wen Bile Tang. However, the specific medication should be decided by the doctor according to the child’s condition.
Er Chen Tang has the effects of drying dampness and resolving phlegm, regulating qi and harmonizing the middle (regulating the qi of the spleen and stomach to make the spleen and stomach function smoothly). It is used for treating dampness-phlegm syndrome. Symptoms include cough with excessive phlegm, white color and easy to swallow, nausea and vomiting, chest and diaphragm constriction, and heavy limbs (weakness and heaviness of limbs). This formula is contraindicated in cases of hematemesis, thirst, yin deficiency and blood deficiency.
Warm Bile Soup is effective in regulating Qi, resolving phlegm, harmonizing the stomach and inducing bile (regulating stomach qi and promoting bile secretion). It is mainly used for treating the symptoms of gallbladder depression and phlegm disturbance (internal disturbance of phlegm, malfunctioning of the evacuation and excretion of gallbladder). Symptoms include timidity and fearfulness (fearfulness in the heart, not daring to meet people, easily frightened), headache, palpitations, restlessness and sleeplessness, night dreams; or vomiting and eructation (hiccups), dizziness, and so on.
Children with heavy phlegm-dampness are advised to consult a doctor. If medication is needed, it should be diagnosed by a doctor and followed by standardized treatment.
